New
Westminster. Sounds like "the Queen", but looks like "Queens". It's
a mix of lost-cause demographics, biker cousins and ex mental
patients.
No worries though. The police are always
close at hand. Either at Starbucks on 6th or Tim Horton's across
the street. A friendly land with no Alabis.
And while we're on the subject: a
tribute to mothers who look out contstantly for their lost children. "lost" is a matter of relativity.
"Found" is a matter of consequence. "Wandering" is
choice that most fall prey to.
The patron Saint of "female-hood" with all of her generous and
selfless qualities has touched every single one of us Wandering
Males at some point in our existence.
Let's
say this: New West needs a breath of fresh air. The
waterfront is dying. Columbia St is long-dead and prone to
vampirism. Uptown is retired and dysfunctional. Queen's
Park is hoity-toity and colorful, but honestly Marge, it's the
only place you can walk your little poodle, "Fluffie" and
feel safe.
I prefer to hang out at the Terminal City Pub for Friday night
Karaoke. It's a legend whose days are numbered, so y'all
come down, y'hear?
Owin
makes a point here: "location is everything". Our
graf bank is a little dated, so c'mon you digital cam dudes. Snap
a few clicks and send them to SEZ. Win a cheezeburger or more. Prove
to me that there's more to New Westminster than Yard Sales and
Happy Hours. Please.
This piece is getting warmer, as in "apple pie".
Why are there bears in my back yard? why?
Things are warming
up. Just in time for Winter. Color and
light are titilating my kundalini. These guys - although speaking
in Greek are saying a lot. Warm up your locomotive and head
to the Pizza Hut.
You have to hand it to these folks:
it's tough to paint on corrugated tin. There's life in between
the cracks in in
the sidewalk after all. The jumble on the left is what happens
to Psychic Romance when you fall in love with Gypsy Queens. Your
future is uncertain, but full of tall strangers.
We cast
one look backwards at the barren concrete
of New West as we retreat joyfully to the suburbs. Wishing
everyone a merry christmas early this year. Drink up, it's
later than you think
